Throughout her lifetime, Kathi Jolley has gotten her hands dirty exploring many different art mediums. Years ago, student exhibitions brought accolades for her pencil, charcoal, and pastel creations. However, her more recent work in sterling silver has brought an unprecedented freedom to her artistic expression. She entered the field of silversmithing in early 1999 through a week-long intensive introductory class. Since then, she has built a fully functional home studio where she spends time experimenting with new designs and perfecting established techniques. Founded in a strong bond to Mother Nature, most of Kathi’s designs are based on patterns and contours found in the natural world. She creates pieces that have an organic feel, often incorporating imprinted patterns, moving or three-dimensional elements, and patina finishes. Though she very much enjoys the technical aspects of silversmithing, each piece is the result of a vivid, inspired idea that undergoes a process of artistic evolution and culminates in a work that has a personality of its own. Kathi is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, where she divides her time between silversmithing and caring for her young family. She enjoys participating in local triathlons when the water is warm, successfully working out many of her jewelry designs during the hours she spends training.
